The Northern Region [The Danube Plain]
The Northern Region [The Danube Plain]. Has about 35% of the Bulgarian vineyards. It is located between the Danube and the Balkan mountain range [north-south] and between Dobrudga and Serbia [east-west]. Good quality white wines are made here [Chardonnay, Muscat, Sauvignon, Aligote and local Misket [combination of Riesling and Dimiat], Dimiat and Rkatsiteli]. The red wines include Local Gamza, good quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The climate here is mild with warm and humid springs and long hot summers. The largest vineyards are near Rousse and Svischtov [hot climate with air circulation coming from the Danube area].
