„The legend says that when God distributed the land to people, the Bulgarians were the last ones. They got the best, the most beautiful, most diverse and most picturesque landscape”.

Bulgaria lies on the crossroads joining Asia and Europe, in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula. It is noted for its unusual diversity. The Danubian Plain stretches out to the Stara Planina mountain range. The area of the Sredna Gora is separated from the main range by a valley. The Rhodope Mountains are found on the border with Greece, and the Thrace lowland meets the Black Sea coast. Bulgaria has mostly mountains and highlands [70% of the country]; the highest peak is Musala [2925 m.] – the highest peak of the Balkan Peninsula. The Danube is the longest river in Bulgaria.
